Last week, staff at the Athabasca location of the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society of Alberta (SCARS) made a distressing discovery: a mother cat and her seven kittens left in a crate along the roadside leading to their facility.
According to a post on SCARS’ Facebook account last Thursday, the animals were found abandoned, with another mother cat and her kittens dumped in a similar manner the day before.
The accompanying images shared by SCARS depict the crate on the gravel road, with the wide-eyed mother cat and her huddled kittens visible inside, capturing the attention and concern of many who viewed the post.
The incident sparked significant outrage among social media users, prompting dozens of comments and hundreds of reactions. The post concluded with a plea for responsible pet ownership, urging the public to spay and neuter their animals to prevent such heartbreaking situations in the future.
SCARS expressed exhaustion over the ongoing need to address such cases and emphasized the importance of community awareness in tackling animal abandonment issues.
