The Kittery, a cat rescue based in Mexia, Texas, is urgently seeking foster homes as it faces a decrease in community involvement and reaches maximum capacity at its current facility.
Founded and operated by Elizabeth Hernandez and her husband, The Kittery operates out of a shed in their yard, dedicated to housing and caring for kittens in need. Hernandez, driven by a deep passion for animal welfare, emphasized the rescue’s commitment to providing voice and care to cats that require assistance.
Initially inspired by fostering for another rescue organization, Hernandez expanded her efforts to establish The Kittery after witnessing the overwhelming need in her community. The rescue accepts kittens from individuals unable to care for them, providing necessary vaccinations, veterinary care, and eventual placement in adoption partnerships with local retailers.
Despite their dedication, The Kittery is limited by its current capacity and relies heavily on foster homes to alleviate strain and facilitate more rescues. Hernandez stressed the importance of community support through fostering, which enables the rescue to continue its vital mission of helping cats across Central Texas.
“We need adoptions to free up space so we can rescue more kittens,” Hernandez stated, underscoring the critical role of foster homes in expanding their capacity and reaching more cats in need.
With increased community support, The Kittery aims to brighten the future for cats by ensuring they find loving homes and receive the care they deserve.
