The Humane Society in Columbia, alongside law enforcement from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department, is seeking public assistance in investigating a disturbing case of cat abuse.
A resident of Spring Lake Apartments reported discovering a cat covered in a glue-like substance, with its eyes, nose, and mouth attempted to be glued shut. The cat had also been shaved and had its whiskers cut. Found near a pond at the apartment complex, the cat is currently receiving care at CVETS, with an 80% chance of survival.
The Humane Society’s Animal Welfare Advocate has launched an investigation, urging anyone with information to contact them directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers. Dawn Wilkinson, executive director of the Humane Society, emphasized the severity of the incident, noting potential felony charges for the perpetrator under South Carolina law, which could entail significant penalties.
Readers are advised of the disturbing nature of the accompanying photo, as the community rallies to assist in bringing justice for the abused cat.
