(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, July 6, around 10:30 p.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to a structure fire at an apartment in the 1300 block of West Kiowa Street, near North 14th Street. The fire displaced nine people and resulted in the deaths of three cats.
CSFD reported that smoke was detected from the basement apartment of a Victorian house that had been converted into six units. Eight adults and one child were displaced by the fire.
One person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while two others were evaluated on the scene and refused further care. Unfortunately, three cats were found, but none survived.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by CSFD. The Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the incident.
