Amy Rogerson, 29, from Gateshead, broke tradition on election day by taking her three-year-old ginger tabby, Robin, to the polls at Shipley Art Gallery. While dogs are a common sight at polling stations, cats like Robin are a rare occurrence.
Robin, usually preoccupied with hunting birds and mice, accompanied Amy in his cat carrier. Amy clarified that bringing Robin along was not a political statement but rather a fun deviation from the norm. She expressed her desire to see more cats joining dogs at polling stations, noting the overwhelming canine presence typically seen online during election days.
“I’ve always noticed lots of dogs at polling stations whenever I look online on voting days, so I thought, why not bring a cat and mix things up a bit,” Amy told ChronicleLive.
Amy hopes her initiative will encourage more cat owners to participate in this lighthearted tradition of bringing pets to polling stations.
