PLUMAS LAKE, Calif. — A Plumas Lake couple is facing felony charges after authorities discovered around 200 cats, both living and dead, in their home last month. The Yuba County District Attorney’s Office reports that the couple claimed to be running a feral cat rescue.
On May 7, animal care services responded to numerous complaints about the couple’s home on Sundance Drive. Upon investigation, over 150 living cats and nearly 50 dead cats were found throughout the house.
The district attorney’s office revealed that the couple lived in the house with their child.
Brandon and Valerie Arens were arrested on June 20 and have since been released from custody. They face felony charges of animal cruelty and child endangerment and are scheduled to be arraigned on July 23.
