Las Vegas experienced scorching temperatures last week, with highs exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, creating hazardous conditions for both people and animals alike. Dana Hernandez and her family encountered a distressing situation during an early morning walk when they heard desperate cries for help coming from a storm drain.
They discovered a mother cat and her kittens trapped inside the drain. Acting quickly, Hernandez called her mother, Dr. Julie Woodward, who rushed to the scene. With determination, they managed to remove the drain grate using a rope tied to their truck.
Despite multiple calls to animal control, the fire department, and the police, the family took matters into their own hands. Hernandez bravely entered the drain and rescued three kittens before professional help arrived.
Undeterred by the heat, the family persisted through the night, ultimately spending 13 hours to safely retrieve all five kittens and their mother from the drain. Dr. Woodward, deeply moved by the ordeal, has decided to adopt the entire feline family herself.
