The RSPCA is appealing to find a special home for Candy and Kane, a bonded pair of cats with unique needs. Candy, a five-year-old white and black female, and Kane, a four-year-old white male who is almost blind, are currently at the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Chobham.
Candy and Kane were brought to the center on March 18 after their previous owner could no longer care for them. Despite Kane’s limited vision, he adapts well to his surroundings and relies on Candy for guidance. The two are incredibly affectionate, enjoying attention, snuggles, and each other’s company.
Sue Walters, manager at the RSPCA Millbrook, expressed the difficulty in finding a suitable home for the pair. They need a home where Candy can have outdoor access while Kane remains indoors, which can be facilitated with a microchip cat flap, or a home with a safe outdoor catio. Potential adopters are also asked to maintain a consistent home environment to help Kane navigate safely.
In light of Euro 2024, the center hopes that Kane’s name might attract more interest. Walters added, “We know many people across Surrey will be hoping that football comes home this summer, thanks to Harry Kane and his England team-mates! But at the centre, our goal is to find a home for our very own Kane and his favourite strike partner Candy!”
Candy and Kane need to be rehomed together and could live with a family that has calm, junior school-aged children, but no other pets. The RSPCA is facing an ‘animal welfare crisis’ with rescue centers full and a growing number of animals in private boarding, costing the charity around £500,000 a month. Despite celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, the RSPCA is struggling to keep up with the influx of animals needing care.
Anyone interested in adopting Candy and Kane is encouraged to contact the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre to offer these sweet and loving cats a forever home.
