Swindon, UK – Almost 30 cats were rescued from deplorable conditions described as “appalling squalor” at a property in Swindon, following concerns raised after a resident’s death. Inspectors from the RSPCA intervened on June 12, saving six young kittens and 21 cats from the dire situation.
The six kittens were taken to the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home in Cambridge, Gloucestershire, while the remaining cats found refuge in various rescue centers. The rescue efforts have prompted an appeal for donations to cover medical expenses, special food, and continuous care.

The rescued kittens were found severely unwell, battling conditions such as severe anaemia, respiratory infections, sore eyes, and flu-like symptoms. Named Bellingham, Rice, Harry, Pickford, Gareth, and Foden at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, they symbolize resilience akin to the England team in UEFA Euros 2024.
According to the rescue center, the cats were infested with fleas, covered in filth, and matted with their own excrement. Staff members are committed to giving these kittens a fighting chance despite their critical condition of severe anaemia and weakness.
Two of the kittens received urgent care at an emergency veterinary hospital, including intensive treatment with IV fluids and antibiotics. Sadly, despite the efforts, they did not survive. The remaining four kittens and 21 cats, now housed at other rescue centers, are described as understandably frightened and timid by RSPCA officers.
The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home emphasized that the surviving kittens face an uphill battle for recovery, with significant challenges ahead.
