FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Liam, an adventurous 8-year-old cat, found himself in an extraordinary situation when he was spotted riding atop a moving vehicle at 30 miles per hour. David Giuseppone, owner of Wulf Towing in Flagstaff and an avid animal enthusiast, recounted the dramatic rescue that unfolded on Monday.
“I heard ‘Meow, meow, meow,’ and I looked around. I saw a cat riding on top of a late-model Ford Explorer on the roof rack,” Giuseppone recalled.
Taking swift action, Giuseppone captured video footage as he raced towards the vehicle, helping to bring it to a stop safely by the roadside just in time for Liam to jump off.
“I’m relieved the cat got off the vehicle before reaching Route 66. Retrieving him there would have been much more challenging,” Giuseppone remarked, speculating that Liam had likely been relaxing in the shade on the car roof before it unexpectedly drove off.
Once safely off the vehicle, Liam was understandably frightened and darted into the road. With the help of Giuseppone and another bystander, the cat was swiftly corralled and taken to High Country Humane.
Liz Olson from High Country Humane described Liam’s ordeal as “a unique, wild story.” Despite the excitement of finding Liam with a microchip, hopes of quickly reuniting him with his family were dashed when the chip’s information was found to be outdated.
“We often find that microchips are not registered or the contact information has changed, making it difficult to reunite animals with their owners,” Olson explained.
Undeterred, David Giuseppone has taken on the mission to locate Liam’s family. “Let’s find his primary home. If not, I’ll gladly adopt him,” Giuseppone said optimistically.
Anyone with information about Liam or his family is urged to contact High Country Humane promptly.
