June 12– Bao Zi, an American shorthair cat from China, has captured the attention of the world by setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest 10 meters on a skateboard by a cat. At just 1 year and 8 months old, Bao Zi skateboarded a remarkable distance of 32 feet, 9.2 inches in only 12.85 seconds.
The talented feline, originally adopted to tackle a rodent issue at home, surprised owner and professional dog trainer Li Jiangtao with its extraordinary skateboarding prowess.
“We had mice running around the ceiling at night, so I got Bao Zi to scare them away,” Jiangtao revealed to Guinness World Records.
Jiangtao, who has over a decade of experience training dogs, initially started skateboarding with his canine companions for leisure. However, it was Bao Zi’s unexpected fascination with skateboards that prompted him to nurture this unusual talent.
“It took about a year of patient training for Bao Zi to master skateboarding,” Jiangtao shared with the South China Morning Post. “Training a cat is quite challenging compared to dogs, as they don’t learn as quickly and can forget tricks almost instantly.”
Impressed by Bao Zi’s achievements, Jiangtao has expanded his professional repertoire to include training cats. His expertise now extends to teaching felines unusual skills such as using toilets and even flushing after use.
Bao Zi’s remarkable feat on the skateboard has not only earned him a place in the record books but also highlighted the surprising talents that cats can possess with the right guidance and encouragement.
