A Wellington couple is grappling with heartache following the tragic loss of their beloved rescue cat, Misty, in a devastating road accident. James Sharland and Tracey, deeply saddened by the loss of their feline companion, expressed gratitude towards a compassionate passerby who attempted to save Misty’s life.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded on the morning of Tuesday, January 4, when Misty, a cherished member of the family for six and a half years, was struck by a vehicle in the town center. James, 55, and Tracey, without children of their own, regarded Misty as more than a pet but rather as a cherished member of their family.
“Misty was like a child to us,” James shared. “We had Misty for six years; she was a rescue cat from Cat’s Protection. We have always had cats, we are cat lovers. Misty was part of the furniture, her loss has left a big hole in our lives.”
Despite the efforts of a compassionate bystander who swiftly transported Misty to Mount Vets on Taunton Road, the beloved feline was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. James extended his heartfelt appreciation to those who attempted to assist, though their identities remain unknown.
“Unfortunately, she had already died by the time they arrived at the vets,” James recounted. “We don’t know the names of the good Samaritans, but we would like to know who helped to thank them in person if possible.”
Fondly reminiscing about Misty’s affectionate nature, James shared cherished memories of her penchant for morning cuddles and shoulder snuggles. “She loved cuddles and would jump on your shoulder in the morning, snuggle right into your neck, she loved shoulder cuddles all the time,” he recalled. “She brought us a lot of happiness. She was always cuddling up. She had a warm and loving temperament, she was very nice.”
The loss of Misty has left an indelible void in James and Tracey’s lives, with James expressing profound devastation over the tragic accident. “I was devastated when it happened. My partner was very upset and still is,” he admitted.
Despite their grief, the couple, who previously had only one pet, is now considering welcoming a new cat into their home, a testament to their enduring love for feline companionship. As they navigate through their sorrow, James and Tracey remain grateful for the love and joy Misty brought into their lives, forever cherishing her memory.
