A cat’s determined attempt to enter another person’s home has gained viral attention on social media. Instagram user @drunkenmagpies shared a video capturing the fluffy feline squeezing through a loft conversion window, suggesting it wasn’t the first encounter with the persistent visitor.
In the on-screen text, @drunkenmagpies wrote, “Heard a meow [and] could not work out where it was coming from,” followed by, “Uh oh … ‘not my cat’ has found a new way to come say hi.” The video, posted on May 26, has garnered 887,000 views and 50,000 likes.
According to comments from the poster, the cat, described as clever, belonged to a nearby house but had been frequenting her home for the past year. Despite the unfamiliar route, the cat managed to navigate through the roof window, surprising the homeowner.
While many admired the cat’s determination and affection, others joked about the feline’s persistent visits, dubbing it a “cat burglar.”
Though it remains unclear how the cat ascended to the top floor, it demonstrated the agility typical of its species. Catster, a cat-focused publication, notes that the average cat can jump between 4 to 6 feet.
Living in the United Kingdom, where houses typically stand at a considerable height, the cat’s daring climb highlighted its acrobatic prowess. However, while cats are often associated with graceful landings, Purina suggests that the height of a fall significantly influences their survival.
Research from the New York City Animal Medical Centre indicates that cats falling from greater heights tend to sustain fewer injuries, as they have more time to adjust their posture and slow their descent. This phenomenon allows them to reach a state of relaxation and stretch out, decreasing their velocity and minimizing potential harm upon impact.
