The passing of Maisie, a cherished 14-year-old cat who frequented the top of Trengrouse Way, has left a profound impact on the local community. After sustaining severe injuries on Monday afternoon, Maisie’s owner, Linda Jenkin, made the difficult decision to euthanize her beloved pet.
The news of Maisie’s death prompted an outpouring of love and support from members of the public, particularly on social media platforms like Facebook. Many recalled fond memories of Maisie, describing her as “cute” and expressing their affection for her by leaving flowers and heartfelt messages at the bench where she often sat.
On Tuesday, the bench at the top of Trengrouse Way became a makeshift memorial adorned with flowers, letters, and drawings of Maisie, serving as a poignant tribute to her memory. Among the tributes was an emotional letter from a young boy bidding Maisie farewell and wishing her to “fly high and rest in peace.”
Linda expressed her gratitude to those who reached out with messages, flowers, and photos of Maisie throughout the week. Additionally, a GoFundMe page was created on the day of Maisie’s passing to cover veterinary expenses, cremation costs, and other associated expenses. The page quickly surpassed its fundraising goal, collecting £785 in donations.
Bethany Cowls, a family member of Linda, announced that the GoFundMe page would be closed as the donations exceeded the necessary amount. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community for their overwhelming support and love for Maisie, emphasizing the profound impact the beloved cat had on everyone’s hearts.
