Approximately 100 cats, the majority of which were black, have been rescued from a property in Dartford, Kent, by staff from the Safe Haven Animal Rescue.
The rescued animals, including pregnant females and kittens, were found at a house in Dartford. Elise Bradley, from the Chelsfield-based organization, expressed surprise at the large number of black cats found in one property, stating it was “very strange” and “not normal.”
Bradley noted that black cats are often overlooked for adoption due to superstitions or perceived lack of attractiveness. She explained, “Sometimes people don’t want black cats because they think they are more likely to get run over at night.”
The rescue operation took place on May 29, with approximately 20 cats found inside the property and many more discovered in the surrounding bushes. While some cats have been rehomed, the charity has had to leave others behind temporarily.
Ms. Bradley emphasized the challenge of rehoming black cats, stating, “It definitely takes longer to rehome black cats. And 100 is a lot.”
