A sweet ginger tabby named Max is in need of a loving home after being abandoned by his family. According to a June 3 post by the Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary on Facebook, 7-year-old Max was given away to a family member after his original owners got a new puppy. Unfortunately, he was soon surrendered to a shelter, which then reached out to the sanctuary for help in finding Max a permanent home.
The sanctuary described Max as “a sweet and easy fellow” who is currently “confused and a bit sad” as he misses being part of a family. “He is used to being part of a family and he misses having a lap to curl up on, a window to sun himself in,” the post reads.
Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary emphasized the importance of finding a forever home for Max. “Max is a cat, not a rubber ball,” the post states. “Max is a forever boy, not a for right now boy. He is willing to commit to YOU for life. Can YOU commit to him for life?”
The post quickly garnered attention, with many people sending Max virtual kisses and expressing their frustrations with individuals who abandon pets. One commenter wrote, “The original owner and family member deserve the same treatment given to Max times 100.” Another shared, “I’ll never understand abandoning a ‘loved family member.’ It’s truly sickening. Especially in this situation. They could’ve trained the dog. Acclimated the animals. Instead they gave up on an animal they supposedly loved.”
Amidst the outpouring of support for Max, another person noted, “If anyone doesn’t know the wonderfulness of orange tabbies, especially the boy tabbies, now’s your chance.” Another optimistically commented, “Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. They could not have loved this cat. I’m sure someone will come along that he can snuggle with as he purrs with happiness.”
The sanctuary hopes that Max’s next home will be one where he can find stability and love for the rest of his life.
