Leslie Greenhough, 69, believes his tortoiseshell moggy, Millie, born in 1995, is the oldest living cat. Originally owned by his late wife Paula, who got Millie as a kitten, Greenhough has been Millie’s full-time caregiver since Paula’s passing in April 2020 due to Covid.
A retired storekeeper from Stockport, Greenhough says Millie’s longevity is due to “lots of treats,” “cuddles on the sofa,” and a diet of chicken, Purina cat food, tinned tuna, and prawns. Despite her age, Millie remains active, though she is slower and slightly deaf.
Millie has never visited a vet or had significant health issues. She became an indoor cat after being bullied by neighborhood cats. Greenhough, who met Paula in 2012 and married her in 2014, shared how both he and Millie struggled with Paula’s death. Millie initially refused to eat but gradually returned to her regular diet.
Greenhough hopes to submit Millie to the Guinness World Records to claim the title of the world’s oldest cat, currently held by 28-year-old Flossie.
