A cat that appeared to have been abandoned at the six-kilometre marker of Postill Lake Road was rescued thanks to the efforts of Liz Muir and her husband, Steve Kitzmann.
The Discovery and Initial Attempts
Liz and Steve, who live in Sunset Ranch, acted swiftly upon hearing about the cat spotted on Postill Lake Road. Upon arrival, they easily found the cat, but it remained wary and did not allow them to get close enough to catch it.
“It was standing in the middle of the road, waiting and meowing,” Muir described. Despite its calls for help, the cat kept its distance.
The Rescue Plan
Determined to help, the couple borrowed a live trap. They placed food inside the trap and waited patiently. Over the next several attempts, they returned to check the trap, finding it empty each time. Their persistence paid off when they checked the trap at 5 a.m. on Monday and found the cat inside.
The Friendly Feline
Upon bringing the cat home and releasing it from the trap, Muir and Kitzmann discovered that it was extremely friendly and affectionate. “It’s a very friendly cat. When we got it home and took it out of the trap, it was very happy and very cuddly, very affectionate. I don’t know why somebody would dump something that’s so friendly,” Muir said.
Next Steps
The rescued cat is now in the care of the Okanagan Humane Society. The society will conduct a full health checkup before making the cat available for adoption.
A Worthwhile Effort
Liz Muir and her husband are gratified by their successful rescue mission. “Because we’re animal lovers. We don’t think that animals should be treated that way. That’s for sure,” Muir emphasized. Their dedication highlights the compassion and determination of animal lovers committed to ensuring the well-being of abandoned pets.
