In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a Roswell man has pleaded guilty to shooting at least two cats with a crossbow, resulting in the death of one feline and severe injury to another. The surviving cat, now rehabilitated, is prepared for adoption, according to Furkids animal shelter.
Diviya Roney, Director of Programs for Cats at Furkids, recounted the harrowing ordeal upon learning about a cat roaming a neighborhood with an object protruding from its skull. “We heard about a cat that was roaming around a neighborhood. They did not know if it was an arrow or a dart, they just knew there was something through its skull,” she explained.
Upon locating the injured cat, named Patrick by the rescue team, it took five days to trap him in Roswell. Roney described the heartbreaking moment when they discovered a crossbow bolt lodged in Patrick’s skull, prompting immediate efforts to rehabilitate him.
Elvis Fistik was arrested by Roswell police and charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty for shooting Patrick with a crossbow and fatally shooting another cat. Roney expressed bewilderment at Fistik’s justification for his actions, emphasizing the incomprehensible nature of harming animals due to personal circumstances.
Fistik pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison, a form of justice rarely seen in animal cruelty cases, noted Roney. She underscored the significance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, particularly in cases where animals are victims of violence.
Thanks to Furkids’ dedication, Patrick has made a full recovery and is now ready for adoption. Roney emphasized Patrick’s resilience and readiness for a loving home, urging interested individuals to consider providing him with a safe and nurturing environment.
As Furkids begins accepting adoption applications for Patrick, Roney reiterated the importance of finding him a permanent residence where he can thrive and receive the care he deserves. Patrick’s journey from victim to survivor serves as a testament to the resilience of animals and the unwavering commitment of organizations like Furkids in advocating for their well-being.
