A remarkable feline named Shrimp, a three-year-old Turkish Angora cat with special needs, is on the lookout for a compassionate individual or family to provide her with a lifetime of love, cuddles, and cozy cat naps. Despite facing challenges at a young age, Shrimp has proven herself to be a resilient survivor.
In December 2022, Shrimp sustained a spinal cord injury after a three-story fall, recounted Madison Ohler, the founder of Wonky Whiskers Rescue, a nonprofit organization based in central Texas dedicated to rescuing cats with serious injuries, disabilities, and illnesses. Despite undergoing extensive testing and therapy, Shrimp was unable to regain function in her back legs.
Although Shrimp sometimes relies on a wheelchair, she demonstrates remarkable independence by “scooting” and even climbing around on her own. Her previous owner surrendered her to Wonky Whiskers Rescue in June 2023, and the rescue is now hopeful that Shrimp will find her forever home before her one-year mark at the shelter.
Despite her traumatic injury, Shrimp is described as “happy and healthy,” requiring only a bit more care than a typical cat. She needs her bladder to be expressed three times a day, a simple process that takes only a few minutes. Other than that, Shrimp is a typical cat with soft fur and a fondness for snuggling and lounging. Weighing just eight pounds, she is petite in size and adores Churu treats, cozy beds, and endless cuddles.
Madison Ohler encourages potential adopters to consider giving special needs cats like Shrimp a chance, emphasizing the rewarding bond that develops between them and their caregivers. “Paralyzed cats surprise us with how resilient and capable they are,” she remarked, underscoring the extraordinary nature of the bond they form with their human companions.
Individuals interested in providing a loving home for Shrimp are encouraged to reach out to Wonky Whiskers Rescue via Facebook or the organization’s website. Shrimp is up-to-date on her shots and medical care, and her adoption fee is waived. However, due to her specific needs, Wonky Whiskers Rescue requires that potential adopters meet Shrimp beforehand to receive instructions on her care, ensuring a seamless transition into her new home.
