In a heartwarming rescue operation, a black and white cat was saved on Tuesday after it found itself trapped in a car’s engine during a traffic jam on I-95 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
The incident unfolded around 7:45 a.m. as the small cat weaved through stalled traffic, eventually seeking refuge in a Nissan SUV, as recounted by Foxborough Animal Control Officer Kaycee Bailey.
Initially mistaken for having fled or taken another route, the cat’s presence became evident when the occupants of the vehicle heard faint meowing further into their journey. Prompted by the discovery, Massachusetts State Police and AAA were summoned to the scene, alongside Bailey, who spearheaded the rescue effort.
“The kitten was underneath the engine, kind of in a tray at the bottom of the car. When we went to reach in to grab it, he, of course, took off into a different part, so we kind of chased him around a little bit underneath the car,” Bailey described the rescue operation.
Despite the harrowing experience, the resilient feline, subsequently named Rogue in homage to the Nissan brand, emerged with singed whiskers and burned paws, indicative of the perilous conditions it endured.
“Extremely lucky. I think the fact there was traffic is the only reason he’s alive right now,” Bailey remarked, underscoring the fortunate outcome of the incident.
Following the rescue, Rogue was transported to an animal shelter in Mansfield, where he will undergo a mandatory seven-day hold period before becoming available for adoption.
The heartwarming tale of Rogue’s narrow escape serves as a testament to the compassion and quick action of those involved, highlighting the importance of vigilance and empathy towards our furry companions in unexpected situations.
