In Beijing, content creators are utilizing artificial intelligence to produce captivating images of pets, particularly chic cat models, which are drawing significant interest from advertisers and companies. Since the rise of this trend in April last year, these unique AI-crafted images have become a popular way for brands to connect with audiences, especially on social platforms like Xiaohongshu.
Chen Jian, a visual designer in Shanghai, is at the forefront of this movement. After learning to use the AI tool Midjourney, which launched in March 2022, Chen began generating images of cats doing human-like activities, such as practicing Baduanjin—a traditional Chinese exercise. One of his posts garnered over 160,000 likes, a staggering number for his then modest following.
These AI-generated images often depict pets in human scenarios, such as wearing clothes or participating in academic tests, adding a whimsical, anthropomorphic appeal. This niche has not only captured the public’s imagination but has also proven to be a lucrative venture for creators like Chen, who has since attracted advertising offers from major brands including milk tea companies, car manufacturers, and internet apps.
Luo Yongshuo from Guangzhou has also carved out a space in this burgeoning industry by creating AI-generated videos of cats modeling clothes and accessories. Inspired by his own pet, a silver American shorthair, Luo started producing these videos in January and quickly saw his follower count soar, thanks to the engaging and stylish content.
The appeal of AI-generated pet images and videos lies in their novelty and the ease with which they can be customized. Businesses find this technology particularly useful as it eliminates the need for real animals in shoots, avoiding potential animal discomfort and consumer backlash over animal welfare concerns. Moreover, AI allows for limitless creativity in advertising campaigns, reducing production costs and logistical challenges.
Industry experts predict that the use of AI in creating pet-related content will continue to grow, not just within the pet industry but across various sectors. Companies outside the traditional pet product market are already employing these images to attract younger demographics and enhance their promotional efforts.
As AI technology evolves, it offers expansive possibilities for content creators and marketers alike, redefining how products and ideas are showcased in the digital age. However, the challenge remains to maintain authenticity and emotional connection in AI-generated content, ensuring that these innovative creations resonate deeply with viewers.
