In a disturbing incident reported overnight in Calaveras County, a mountain lion seized and killed a cat, as recounted by the pet’s owner to CBS Sacramento on Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight, in the vicinity of Palmer and Jurs roads, east of the community of West Point.
According to Joe Buck, the owner of the cat, the family was in the process of allowing the feline back into their home when the mountain lion pounced. Buck elaborated that the attack unfolded merely three feet away from his son. Subsequently, at approximately 6:20 a.m. the same morning, the mountain lion returned to the scene, peering through a sliding glass door in close proximity to where the family’s cat was taken. Buck reported that security cameras captured the moment the mountain lion revisited the area.
This incident adds to a series of mountain lion sightings and encounters, including some fatal encounters, documented across the Sierra Nevada Foothills throughout the year.
Further north, in El Dorado County, in March, two brothers fell victim to a mountain lion attack, resulting in the death of one of them. Subsequently, the mountain lion responsible was tracked down and euthanized.
Additionally, in El Dorado County, just over a week prior to this incident, a mountain lion was observed on camera strolling across an individual’s lawn.
Authorities advise individuals who spot a mountain lion to promptly report the sighting.
