Los Angeles, California — Investigators are probing into allegations that a man, already incarcerated for the torture and killing of a cat, may have also subjected a woman’s 16-year-old Chihuahua to a similarly harrowing fate last week.
Disturbing surveillance footage has surfaced, capturing the chilling moments when 27-year-old Rogelio Diaz, identified as the suspect, callously kicked the dog named Chiquita onto the street outside her owner’s residence last Wednesday.
The footage reveals Diaz halting his bike, donning gloves, and callously maneuvering the helpless dog onto the sidewalk, where he mercilessly ran her over multiple times.
Nearly a week following the heart-wrenching incident, the grief-stricken owner, identified as Ramona, is still grappling with the loss.
“Chiquita was my baby,” lamented Ramona, her voice heavy with sorrow. “My baby, so long time.”
Returning home shortly after the brutal episode, Ramona was met with the grisly sight of Chiquita, bloodied and lifeless on the sidewalk. Despite the heinous act, Diaz reportedly lingered in the vicinity, defiantly claiming innocence and pointing blame elsewhere.
“The little girl kept saying, ‘Daddy, the puppy,’ and he was just like, ‘Come on,'” recounted Lola, Ramona’s granddaughter, revealing the chilling exchange witnessed by family members.
In the aftermath of the ordeal, the family attempted to conceal traces of blood left on the wall and sidewalk, remnants of the vicious attack that spanned a horrifying 25 minutes.
Authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department suspect there may be additional victims linked to Diaz. His arrest, which occurred the day after the attack, stemmed from a separate incident wherein he allegedly hurled a woman’s cat against a wall and onto the sidewalk repeatedly until it succumbed.
Diaz’s violent criminal history has raised concerns among law enforcement officials and the community alike.
“Imagine how many other animals he has done that too,” expressed Ramona, her anguish palpable. “People around him are in danger.”
