Cat lovers in Everett found solace and joy amidst personal challenges at a recent kitten yoga event hosted by the Everett Animal Shelter and Mahad Yoga from Lake Stevens. Despite facing a string of unfortunate events, participants eagerly embraced the opportunity to unwind with furry companions.
The 90-minute session, featuring 45 minutes of beginner-friendly yoga followed by 45 minutes of playtime with adorable kittens, proved to be a resounding success, with tickets selling out in less than 24 hours. The event attracted 22 participants, all eager to combine the therapeutic benefits of yoga with the playful energy of kittens.
For one participant, the event offered a much-needed reprieve from a tumultuous week marked by personal hardships. Amidst news of a family member’s illness and other challenges, the prospect of spending time with cats provided a glimmer of hope.
The class, held at the Everett Animal Shelter, fostered an atmosphere of relaxation and camaraderie, with participants united by their shared love for cats. The presence of kittens, including Demming, Farmington, Hopper, Hyacinth, Lewis, and Haruki, added an element of spontaneity and joy to the yoga session.
Despite the occasional distraction caused by playful feline antics, participants reveled in the unique experience of practicing yoga alongside kittens. The event not only provided a welcome distraction but also offered a sense of connection and community during challenging times.
Reflecting on the event, participants shared their heartfelt experiences and newfound connections with the shelter’s resident cats. For some, the bond formed with a particular kitten proved to be especially profound, sparking feelings of love and companionship.
Teresa Miniken, moved by her encounter with Hyacinth, a 2-month-old tortoiseshell kitten, felt a deep emotional connection and decided to adopt her. For Teresa, Hyacinth’s presence filled a void left by the loss of her previous cat, Mimi, years ago.
Similarly, Karen Ebel, grappling with the recent loss of her beloved cat Mr. Jasper, found comfort in the playful antics of the shelter kittens. Despite the pain of loss, the event reminded her of the joy and companionship that cats bring into our lives.
As participants departed, their hearts filled with newfound hope and affection for their furry friends, the event served as a poignant reminder of the healing power of animal companionship. For many, the experience of practicing yoga with kittens offered a much-needed source of comfort and solace amidst life’s challenges.
