Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have conducted a comprehensive study to explore the diverse array of facial expressions used by cats to communicate with each other.
In this research, the team meticulously recorded an impressive 276 unique facial expressions observed in the cats they studied. To provide context, chimpanzees, known for their extensive facial expressions, have approximately 357 different facial expressions in their repertoire.
What makes this discovery even more intriguing is the revelation that cats share certain expressions with humans. This commonality in facial expressions might be attributed to their remarkable 10,000-year history of cohabitation with humans.
