Cats, often hailed as cherished family members and household companions, are set to take center stage on the world’s cat-loving scene as the Felis Croatia Cat Lovers Club, in collaboration with the Karlovac Tourist Board, the City of Karlovac, and Zorin’s House, proudly presents the highly-anticipated WCF World Cat Show. Scheduled for September 23rd and 24th, the event will run from 10 am to 6 pm at the Economic-Tourist School, Kurelčeva 2, Karlovac.
In a remarkable milestone for the enthusiastic Felis Croatia team, this marks their inaugural foray into the prestigious WCF World competition. The showcase promises to dazzle visitors with a remarkable display of 17 world champion cats and the debut of 4 world premieres. Among the illustrious feline guests, rare breeds such as the Kurilian Bobtail, Transylvanian Cat, Bombay Cat, Munchkin, Cornish Rex, and more will grace the stage. Ten international judges will preside over the event, selecting the crème de la crème of these feline stars, all set against a backdrop of riveting programming and abundant attractions for attendees.
As a prelude to the exhibition, on September 22, 2023, at 8:00 pm, a seminar on the theme “Extremes in Breeding” will be conducted by renowned feline geneticist Leslie A. Lyons. Open to all judges, breeders, and enthusiasts, the seminar offers invaluable insights into the world of cat genetics, priced at 35 EUR per participant, regardless of their affiliations.
Beyond the realm of pedigree cats, the Felis Croatia Association is committed to supporting the welfare of abandoned felines. Patrons of the Karlovac exhibition will have the unique opportunity to visit the Kitten Safe House booth, a sanctuary that annually provides refuge and finds new homes for countless cats and kittens. This compassionate initiative includes the exhibition of once-neglected but now well-cared-for kittens, some of which will even partake in the competitions. Visitors will also be able to engage with breeders and feline experts to gain deeper insights into cat behavior, care, and habits.
While the true stars of the exhibition are undoubtedly the cats themselves, attendees can look forward to an enticing array of programs, including the selection of the most adorable kitten, the most handsome neutered cat, and the most captivating adult cat. Those contemplating the adoption of an abandoned cat will find guidance from representatives of the Cat Protection Association, as well as informative brochures covering aspects such as selecting a breeder, choosing a breed, or adopting a kitten. In addition, visitors will receive valuable advice on the proper nutrition and care of their furry companions.
The pinnacle of excitement at the exhibition culminates in the “Best in Show” competition, where the crème de la crème of the exhibition’s most breathtaking felines vie for top honors, an event set to unfold each day starting at 4:30 pm.
Attendees can also avail themselves of a range of services, including access to a veterinary advisory booth, the opportunity to purchase cat toys and equipment, and a special attraction. The multi-award-winning photographer Gordana Popović from Pet Almighty Photography, who recently garnered three prestigious awards for her cat portraits, will establish a professional photo studio on-site, providing attendees with the chance to capture cherished memories alongside their beloved four-legged companions.
