In a heartwarming conclusion to NBCUniversal Local’s “Clear The Shelters” campaign, a month-long nationwide pet adoption and donation event, a staggering 157,000 animals found new homes during the month of August. Locally, 26 beloved pets were adopted, contributing to the remarkable success of the ninth edition of this annual initiative.
With over a million pets now adopted in nine years of the “Clear the Shelters” campaign, a joint effort by NBC and Telemundo stations running from August 1 to August 31, this event has undoubtedly left a significant impact on pet adoption and animal welfare, as highlighted in an NBC press release.
Meredith McGinn, NBCUniversal Local’s EVP of Diginets and Original Production, expressed pride in the campaign’s enduring success, stating, “We are very proud this community-driven initiative continues to grow and succeed in helping pets and the wonderful shelters and people who care for them.”
Notably, this year’s campaign also raised an impressive $575,000 to support its fundraising efforts. Those interested in making monetary contributions can continue to do so until September 30 at ClearTheSheltersFund.org.
The extensive reach of the campaign was made possible by the collaboration of 152 NBC and Telemundo owned and affiliated stations, including NonStop Local, partnering with over 1,400 shelters. This powerful network worked collectively to promote pet adoption and raise essential funds for animal welfare.
Valari Staab, Chairman of NBCUniversal Local, emphasized the pivotal role played by employees, partners, stations, and sponsors in driving the campaign’s success year after year. Their dedication and commitment have undoubtedly made a substantial difference in the lives of countless pets and their new families.
