A cat owner from New Jersey has shared a viral video showing her two cats, a 5-year-old feline and a small kitten, engaging in a playful yet intense moment that has left internet users in stitches.
The video, posted on TikTok earlier this month under the username @bent_and_beau, shows the larger cat, Bentley, sitting on top of his 5-month-old brother, Beau. Despite appearing to suffocate the kitten, Beau eventually escapes and playfully attacks Bentley from behind. The video’s overlay text humorously reads, “When you walk in on your 20lb cat sitting on your 5lb kitten,” with the caption asking, “Hmm, what was Bentley trying to do here?”
Lauren, 29, the cats’ owner, spoke to Newsweek about her pets’ bond. She explained that after being introduced, Bentley (20.2 lbs) and Beau (5 lbs) quickly became inseparable. “They do everything together,” she said. “Snuggles usually end in playful cat fights. I walked in on Bentley sitting on top of Beau, and it truly looked like he was suffocating him, but they were just playing.”
Lauren added that while Beau is often the instigator, Bentley is usually the one getting playfully beaten up. “I’m glad Bentley stood up for himself. It’ll be funny to watch them go at it when they are both the same size.”
Though their games can seem intense, experts from Cats Protection suggest that if the cats’ play is silent, gentle, and reciprocal, it’s likely still just play. However, if the interaction becomes aggressive, with signs like flattened ears, hissing, or growling, it may be time to intervene by distracting them with a toy or a loud noise.
The video, which has been viewed over 1.3 million times and received nearly 300,000 likes, has sparked plenty of reactions from viewers. One commenter, Ch’ulel Jaguar, joked, “He knew exactly what he was doing.” Others, like Lomein, wondered, “Why are cats like this?” while Tatum added, “I think it’s clear who started it.”
Despite the rough moments, the video showcases the adorable chaos that comes with owning playful felines.
