Two EE workers have been suspended after a video surfaced showing one of them mishandling a cat, causing public outrage. The video, captured by a doorbell camera, shows two individuals in EE-branded jackets walking up to a house. One of them is seen grabbing a cat by the scruff of its neck, briefly placing it on a wheelie bin, then picking it up again in the same manner and carrying it away.
An EE spokesperson confirmed that the pair worked for a third-party provider, Money Expert, which has since suspended the employees. The spokesperson emphasized, “EE does not condone the mistreatment of animals and is treating this matter extremely seriously.” Money Expert has also been approached for comment.
The cat, named Iceberg, was later examined by a vet after owner Sarah Hunt noticed her pet was acting “withdrawn” and “not himself.” The vet prescribed painkillers for suspected bruising from the incident. Hunt, who lives in the Broadoak area of Weston-super-Mare, reported the case to the RSPCA. She also called on others in the area to share any similar footage with the animal welfare organization.
The EE spokesperson added that the company works with several third-party providers who visit homes to promote their latest offers. EE has identified the two workers and is now collaborating with Money Expert to investigate the incident.
