ROME, N.Y. — The Rome Humane Society is collaborating with local veterinarians to help a cat, named Romeo, who was found caught in a trap that authorities believe may have been set illegally.
According to officials, Romeo was discovered on the porch of a local man who had just returned from vacation. Concerned for the cat’s well-being, the man immediately contacted the humane society for assistance.
The team from the humane society spent two days trying to coax Romeo out from under the porch, where he had taken refuge. After much effort, a local veterinarian volunteered to help on their day off, providing critical care to remove the trap from Romeo’s injured paw.
Unfortunately, the injury is severe, and Romeo will likely need to have his paw amputated. The community has rallied behind the cat, with another local veterinarian stepping forward to assist with the surgery once Romeo is strong enough to undergo the procedure.
The humane society continues to work with local professionals to ensure Romeo receives the care he needs and make his recovery possible. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over animal traps and the importance of responsible pet ownership.
