A much-loved black and white cat who became a beloved figure at the University of Worcester has died. Toby, affectionately known as the “campus cat,” was a familiar and cherished presence among staff and students alike.
In a heartfelt post on Facebook, the university shared the sad news, describing Toby as not just a pet, but a friend to many. “Toby wasn’t just a familiar face – he was a friend to many,” the post read. “Whether you stopped for a quick cuddle on the way to class or followed his adventures online, he brought a smile to countless people across our community.”
Sara Corfield, known as “Toby’s mum,” has encouraged people to share any photographs they may have of Toby. These photos will be passed on to her as a way to reflect on how much Toby meant to everyone on campus.
“Thank you to everyone who looked out for him over the years – Toby truly was part of the Worcester family,” the tribute continued.
Toby, who became an international sensation, gained fame through his Instagram account and merchandise. His social media bio humorously described him as studying “Meowcanics.”
The beloved cat had his own mural on campus, and students made him feel at home in their accommodations. Known as the “unofficial face of the Students’ Union,” Toby was often seen roaming the campus, sometimes sheltering under the table tennis tables, and winning the hearts of all who encountered him.
During his time at Worcester, Toby became a symbol of comfort and joy, deeply embedded in the university community.
