NEW YORK — Over 180 cats that survived the deadly fire at Happy Cat Sanctuary in Medford, Suffolk County, are now available for adoption. The sanctuary, which had been home to many rescued and abandoned cats, was devastated by a massive blaze on March 31.
In the wake of the fire, a recovery website has been set up, allowing interested individuals to submit applications for adopting the surviving felines. This offers a new chance for these cats to find loving homes after their ordeal.
The fire tragically claimed the lives of more than 100 cats, as well as the sanctuary’s owner, 65-year-old Chris Arsenault. Neighbors have reported that Arsenault made several attempts to save the cats, even after the fire started. He was eventually found dead in the back of his home on the main floor.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the factors that led to the tragic incident. Meanwhile, the surviving cats, many of whom were rescued by Arsenault, are being cared for and prepared for adoption.
For those wishing to help, the application process is available on the sanctuary’s recovery site, and the community’s support is crucial as these resilient animals begin their journey toward finding new homes.
