A Minnesota-based Maine Coon cat has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest tail of any domestic cat, measuring an impressive 18.5 inches (46.99 cm). This remarkable tail length surpasses the previous record-holder, whose tail measured 16.07 inches.
The two-year-old cat, named Mr. Pugsley Addams after the famous Addams Family character, has always had an exceptionally long tail, according to his owner, Amanda Cameron. Cameron recalls that his tail was first noted by the veterinarian during his initial visit, but it wasn’t until six months later that the tail’s extraordinary length became the focus of another appointment.
When Cameron shared the news with her children, who are keen internet users, they quickly researched the current world record for the longest cat tail. To their surprise, they discovered that Pugsley had beaten the existing record.
Pugsley, known for his adventurous spirit, is also a bit of a troublemaker. “He’s always finding new ways to get into things,” Cameron said. “But despite his mischievous side, he’s a sweet and affectionate cat, especially with his mom.”
Pugsley shares his home with two sisters, Winnie and Dutchess, and a brother named Gomez, after the Addams Family father. Like his namesake, Gomez enjoys being affectionate and loves cuddling.
The family believes Pugsley is aware of his record-breaking tail, as it is very expressive and often causes him to bump into things. Besides his impressive tail, Pugsley is known for his calm demeanor, making him a local celebrity. “He’s just a wonderful cat to have around,” Cameron added.
As Guinness World Records celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the family is already joking about other potential titles for their extraordinary feline.
