While we’ve all seen heart-melting videos of cats and dogs instantly becoming best friends, the reality is often quite different. Sometimes, an introduction takes time, patience, and a little courage. On February 14th, one anxious orange cat named Eleanor finally worked up the nerve to meet her Golden Retriever brother, Risli, despite him having been at home for several months.
Though their first encounter wasn’t an instant friendship, it was still a step forward. Eleanor remains a bit uncomfortable around Risli, but her fur mom, who documents their journey, sees this as positive progress. “All progress is good,” she shared.
Eleanor, a rescue cat, has severe anxiety, so it’s no surprise that she’s cautious around Risli, especially since he’s a playful and boisterous Golden Retriever puppy. She’s been on Prozac to help manage her anxiety, which is understandable considering the situation. While her older cat sister, Cadence, has adjusted well to Risli’s presence, Eleanor’s initial hesitation makes sense, as she’s been unsettled by his energetic puppy behavior since his arrival last year.
Though it may take some time, this first meeting is a sweet step toward what will hopefully be a strong sibling bond.
