Amid dangerously cold temperatures in the Midwest, animal shelters are struggling to keep up, and the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) is stepping in to offer support.
OHS announced it is taking in several pets from some of the areas most affected by the recent weather, including 41 cats that arrived in Portland on Wednesday afternoon.
“This operation serves as an important reminder that many communities across the country are still recovering from natural disasters that have occurred in recent months,” said Laura Klink, OHS Public Information Officer. “OHS is well-equipped to assist, while ensuring we continue to prioritize the needs of our local community.”
Klink confirmed that the cats arriving on the flight have been fully “vetted” and health-certified by a licensed local veterinarian.
In addition to the out-of-state cats, OHS is also providing assistance to local felines in need. Just this week, the humane society welcomed over 80 cats from nearby shelters and community members.
