Ferne Animal Sanctuary, a well-established rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming charity in Somerset, has unveiled its new luxury boarding facilities for pets. The service, which began on October 29, offers both short and long-term kennel and cattery boarding options in a safe, comfortable, and enriching environment for pet owners.
Nestled in the tranquil National Landscapes area of the Blackdown Hills, Ferne’s new boarding facilities provide personalized care for dogs and cats, ensuring that each pet receives round-the-clock attention and care in a peaceful rural setting. The sanctuary’s spacious kennels and cattery are designed to cater to the specific needs of each pet, offering a “home-away-from-home” experience.
The sanctuary’s dog boarding facilities feature generously sized kennels, each with its own outdoor run. For added comfort, each kennel is equipped with underfloor heating, which can be adjusted to suit the individual dog’s preferences. Pets enjoy daily enrichment activities, including a 45-minute walk and time in the sensory garden, where they can explore, play, or simply relax in the fresh air. For more energetic dogs, an agility course is available to provide a more active experience.
The cattery is set in a quiet area with views over the sanctuary’s plantation. Each insulated pen includes an air purifying system, and cats have a variety of bedding options to choose from, including ground-level and raised areas. Each pen also has an attached secure outdoor run. To reduce stress and ensure a calming atmosphere, gentle, soothing music is played in the background.
Kevan Hodges, CEO of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, shared, “For over 85 years, Ferne has been a trusted haven for rescue animals, and we are proud to extend that same level of care to the pets in our boarding facilities. Whether it’s a cat that enjoys lounging or a playful one, or a dog that prefers short walks or one that loves running, we offer flexible services to cater to each pet’s unique needs.”
Ferne’s dedicated animal welfare team is on hand each night to check on the pets, with veterinary care available nearby should any medical issues arise. The sanctuary is fully licensed by the local council and accredited by the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes, which regularly inspects the facility.
Boarding fees start at £15 per night for cats and £25 per night for dogs, with discounts available for multiple pets, as well as special offers for adopters and military personnel. All boarding fees help support the sanctuary’s ongoing work, providing food, shelter, and care for the over 300 rescued and surrendered animals living there.
Hodges added, “Our highly trained, passionate team is committed to giving your pets the best possible care. We look forward to welcoming your pets to Ferne’s new boarding facilities for a happy, healthy stay.”
