Cats Protection has submitted plans to transform Alexander House at Old Boston Trading Estate in Haydock from its current use as a warehouse and office into a dedicated cat centre. The charity’s proposal outlines plans to renovate and adapt the two-storey building, which has been vacant for over 12 months, to create a new facility capable of housing up to 32 cats.
According to a design and access statement by Bowker Sadler Architecture, the building consists of a two-storey B2 unit, with an adjoining B8 warehouse section. The plans include replacing the roof above the B8 warehouse area and carrying out comprehensive renovations to make the building suitable for its new purpose.
The charity aims to employ 10 full-time staff members, with additional support from remote workers. Public visits to the facility will be by appointment only, and the number of visitors is not expected to exceed the traffic generated by the building’s previous use.
The statement further notes that the proposed use will not intensify activity at the site, meaning there will be no greater risk to highway safety than before. Cats Protection hopes to invest significantly in the renovation of the property, which has fallen into disrepair during its vacancy.
The plans are currently open for consultation until Thursday, November 14, with a decision expected by December 17. If approved, the new centre will support the charity’s ongoing work within the community.
