Authorities have initiated an investigation into a reported case of cat abuse involving a man in Pandan Jaya.
According to Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail, the Ampang Jaya district police chief, a 26-year-old Indonesian woman filed a complaint after hearing a cat making distressing noises outside her flat around 10 AM on November 1, as reported by The Star.
The woman claimed she witnessed her neighbor, a man in his 60s, abusing the cat by trapping it in a large net and dragging it down to the ground floor.
“The complainant, along with her husband and other residents, attempted to convince the man to free the cat,” Mohd Azam stated in a press release today.
The alleged mistreatment stemmed from the cat frequently defecating outside the man’s home, according to Mohd Azam.
A one-minute and 39-second video documenting the incident has also surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where it has received 563,000 views.
Police are investigating the matter under Section 428 of the Penal Code, Section 29(1)(e) of the Animals Welfare Act, and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.
