A five-week-old kitten had a miraculous escape after being trapped in the engine of a car in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The tiny feline, later named Ota, was rescued by firefighters after the vehicle’s driver heard faint cries coming from under the hood.
Firefighters from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to the call near Killinghall Road, where they had to dismantle parts of the car to reach the kitten. The rescue effort took over an hour as specialists carefully stripped the vehicle to locate and free the young cat.
Ota, named after the Toyota car in which he was found, is now receiving emergency veterinary care. According to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue, the kitten likely suffered fractures in both his back legs, but is expected to make a full recovery due to his young age.
Katie Lloyd, founder of Bradford Cat Watch Rescue, expressed gratitude towards the firefighters for their dedication. “We initially responded after hearing faint cries from the car, and it appears the owner had been unknowingly driving around with the kitten trapped in the engine,” Lloyd explained.
“Thanks to the incredible efforts of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, another life has been saved,” she added.
Ota remains under medical supervision, and despite his injuries, the prognosis for his recovery is positive.
