Pittsburgh, PA – In a heartwarming turn of events, an Erie police officer has adopted a kitten he rescued from a disturbing situation last week. The officer, identified as Martin, received a call about a group of children playing an unusual and dangerous game of catch—with a helpless kitten as their ball.
According to the ANNA Shelter in Erie, Officer Martin arrived at the scene to find the children carelessly tossing the terrified kitten back and forth on a sidewalk. Acting swiftly, Martin intervened, taking custody of the fragile feline and transporting it to the shelter for immediate care.
Upon examination at the shelter, the kitten, later named Oreo, was found to be in shock and suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Fortunately, X-rays revealed that Oreo had no broken bones, but the emotional and physical toll was evident.
As Oreo began receiving treatment, Officer Martin repeatedly visited the shelter to check on the kitten’s progress. The bond between the two grew stronger with each visit, leading Martin to make the heartfelt decision to adopt Oreo.
The ANNA Shelter expressed their gratitude and admiration for Martin’s actions, stating that he not only saved Oreo from a dire situation but also gave the kitten a loving home. “He is fostering to adopt this kitten that he truly saved from death!” the shelter shared in a social media post. “Oreo will grow up safe and happy thanks to Officer Martin.”
This touching story highlights the dedication of officers like Martin, who not only protect the community but also extend their care and compassion to its most vulnerable creatures. Oreo, once a victim of cruelty, now has a hero and a forever home.
