FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) —In a creative twist on popular wellness trends like goat yoga and puppy yoga, the Williamson County Animal Center is now offering a unique experience: kitten yoga. As September is National Yoga Month, this new class invites participants to practice yoga surrounded by playful kittens.
For a $25 fee, attendees can fill one of the recreation rooms at the animal center and engage in a yoga session, albeit with a lot of feline interruptions. “There wasn’t much yoga going on,” laughed one participant after the class, highlighting the playful chaos created by the dozens of kittens roaming the room.
Shelters like the Williamson County Animal Center rely heavily on community support, whether for managing capacity issues or meeting specific food and medical needs. Cats and kittens make up over half of the animals taken in by the center, and many require special food or formula, which can be costly.
“It’s like a half participation thing,” explained the class instructor. “Some people come to do yoga, but most just want to play with the cats, and I get it.”
Proceeds from the kitten yoga classes will go towards covering these expenses and other necessities. Additionally, the classes provide a chance for attendees to learn about volunteer opportunities or even fostering kittens.
The animal center views this initiative as an innovative way to engage the community while creating lasting memories. Plans are already underway to offer more yoga classes in the future.
