A renewed police investigation is underway in Malvern’s Ramsons Close area following the recent deaths of at least four cats from suspected poisoning. This alarming development echoes a series of similar attacks that occurred 13 years ago.
In 2011, the Ramsons Close community first reported a wave of suspected poisonings that resulted in the deaths of 15 cats and a dog, believed to have ingested antifreeze. The police are now revisiting these earlier incidents as part of the current investigation.
Recurring Poisoning Incidents
Identical poisonings were reported five years ago and were investigated by the RSPCA. However, the conclusions of the animal charity’s investigation remain unclear.
Lucy Symmonds, a resident of Ramsons Close, has lost three cats to these suspected poisonings. She expressed her distress and hopes for a resolution:
“I don’t feel like my cat is safe up here, it’s making me a nervous wreck and my children are nervous all the time. I want justice for my cats and people need to be aware so they can keep their pets safe.”
Police and RSPCA Involvement
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police confirmed that they had received reports of multiple cat deaths in the area due to suspected poisonings. The BBC understands that the police are aware of the previous incidents and are incorporating this historical data into their new investigation.
Signs of Poisoning
The RSPCA has provided guidelines on recognizing the signs of poisoning in pets, which can manifest as soon as 30 minutes after ingestion or up to two or three days later when signs of kidney failure might appear. Symptoms of poisoning include:
- Vomiting
- Seeming depressed or sleepy
- Appearing drunk and uncoordinated
- Seizures
- Difficulty breathing
Community Awareness and Safety
With these recurring incidents, it is crucial for residents to be vigilant and take measures to protect their pets. The community’s awareness and cooperation can play a significant role in preventing further tragedies and aiding the ongoing investigation.
The hope is that this fresh investigation will bring justice and an end to the distressing pattern of pet poisonings in Ramsons Close, ensuring a safer environment for all pets in the area.
