Brian Christopher Thode, a 40-year-old from Olathe, Kansas, faces serious charges following the death of 72-year-old Nancy Thode. According to court documents filed on Tuesday, Thode has been charged with first-degree murder along with two counts of cruelty to animals.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, at a residence located in the 1000 block of East Oakview Street in Olathe. The court documents state that Thode allegedly killed Nancy Thode unlawfully, intentionally, and with premeditation, resulting in her death. Initial reports from the Olathe Police Department indicated that Thode was a relative of the victim and that she suffered significant injuries. Nancy Thode was discovered just before 6 p.m. that Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to the murder charge, Thode also faces two counts of animal cruelty. The court documents allege that he unlawfully, knowingly, and maliciously killed a cat and a bird inside the home.
Brian Christopher Thode is currently held on a $3 million bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m. in Johnson County District Court.
