After being missing for 12 days, a Lincoln family feared they might never see their beloved cat, Fletcher, again. However, to their surprise, Fletcher turned up in Rangiora, approximately 45km away from home. Owner Rob Naysmith expressed disbelief at how Fletcher made the journey, suggesting he might have hitched a ride in a vehicle or trailer.
Fletcher, an eight-and-a-half-year-old seal point birman, was reunited with his family through a combination of his microchip and social media. Despite being microchipped, outdated details initially hindered the vet’s attempt to contact the family. Fortunately, through social media outreach, the family was informed of Fletcher’s whereabouts.
The Rangiora Vet Centre played a crucial role in reuniting Fletcher with his family, emphasizing the importance of updated microchip details for swift pet reunification. Despite losing some weight during his adventure, Fletcher returned home in good health and has since received a checkup at his local veterinary hospital.
Naysmith highlighted the significance of microchipping pets and registering them with the NZ Companion Animal Register, emphasizing the ease of reuniting lost pets with their owners through this system.
