A fire in the east side of Indianapolis on Monday morning has left one person displaced and resulted in the death of a cat, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD).
Responding to an alarm at approximately 9:05 a.m., IFD crews were dispatched to the 4600 block of East Washington Street. Upon arrival, they encountered a fire already in progress. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within 10 minutes of their arrival.
The fire not only displaced the occupant, who had been living in the home for just a week, but also tragically led to the death of a cat. Additionally, one dog is still unaccounted for following the incident. The occupant of the home reported to IFD that she was unaware of what might have started the fire.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire to determine its origin and prevent future incidents. Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
